Reason for the award

Vila is our residential Bajoran Ops officer on the Discovery and despite being a bit on the older side when she started as an Ensign, she has already had quite the eventful life story as her early years were shaped during being enslaved during the Bajoran Occupation and the subsequent release and the aftereffects as she grew in the shadow of the Dominion. She is unconventional and even has been somewhat snippy with her commanding officers due to her past experiences, but her tenacious personality, desire to help, and bold tactics make her a valuable member of the Discovery’s crew, as her skills both on the ship computers and with a blaster have been invaluable to the crew during life-or-death missions. Vila deserves this award because she always puts great thought into her posts when it comes to her character’s motivation and actions, even when it goes against the grain of the typical Starfleet officer. She is tough, somewhat rougher around the edges, and not afraid to give her mind. It’s a refreshing change of pace to write with her character, and she is so much fun to engage with, both in and out of canon.
